When Promises Fall Flat: The Ugly Truth About Depending on Someone to Fix Your Home

Let me tell you something that’ll drive you crazy faster than a busted water pipe: relying on somebody else to show up and finish a job in your home. I’m living this hell right now.

The Setup

A few weeks back, I finally got my old shower torn out. Promises were made, tools were hauled in, and I thought, “Yes, finally! Progress.” Except here I am, sitting on a Saturday afternoon, still staring at bare walls and a half-finished mess because the one who promised to show up… didn’t.

The Waiting Game

It’s the same story every time:

  • “I’ll be there this weekend.”
  • “I just need to finish up a job first.”
  • “I’ll swing by in the morning.”

Then the hours pass. The clock ticks. And all you’re left with is silence, frustration, and a home that looks worse than before. You cancel your own plans, rearrange your schedule, and for what? To be ghosted by someone who swore they’d show?

The Real Cost

When somebody tears apart your house and then doesn’t follow through, it’s more than an inconvenience. It’s disrespect. It leaves you stuck living in chaos and adds stress you didn’t ask for. And let’s be real: it’s not just the project that’s broken—it’s the trust too.

My Honest Take

I don’t care if you’re “tired from work” or “ran out of time.” If you promise you’re going to do something, especially when you’ve already started tearing it apart, you follow through. Period. End of story. Don’t leave me holding the bag—or in this case, the busted shower wall.

Why I’m Writing This

Because I know I’m not the only one. So many of us have been burned waiting on someone to come fix, build, or finish something in our homes. And every time it happens, it chips away at your patience and your faith in people.

Here’s the thing: I’ll get my shower done one way or another. But next time somebody makes me a promise about my house, I won’t believe it until I see the tile actually set and the tools put away.

Words mean nothing without follow-through. And I’m done giving out free passes.
